An important part of independence for disabled people is a measure of financial stability.  For many of us, this means a reliance, to various extents, on state benefits.

People with disabilities or long-term health problems can claim a range of benefits.  Some are for people unable to work due to their health, others help with the costs of living with a disability, even for those in work.  The process for claiming benefits is complex, primarily to deter those who do not qualify, but many genuine claimants find the whole business too stressful, and fail to gain their true entitlement.

DIAL's Disabled Claimants' Office helps with all aspects of claiming disability benefits such as Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Incapacity Benefit (IB).  So, if you are daunted by a complex application form, or have been turned down and wish to appeal, contact DIAL.  But beware - there are strict time limits, so do it now.
